Our Capabilities
Our Executive leadership group has been constructing and operating restaurants and cafes since the late seventies. We have decades of capabilities and success within the hospitality industry and a long list of projects which have brought success and innovation to the Hunter.
HS Caterer has been operating in the Hospital food and beverage sector since 2006 when we first opened the retail precinct at the John Hunter Hospital. Our group constructed the retail premises in the Royal Newcastle Centre and modified existing spaces in the old John Hunter.
The operations at the John Hunter Hospital and Royal Newcastle Centre provide retail food and beverage operations for a health care workforce of 5000 as well as for patients and visitors with a seating capacity of over 600 people. The group also manages the Retail Precinct, which also includes a Pharmacy, Building Society, Florist, a hair salon and Newsagency in addition to the food outlets.
In 2016 we constructed the food outlets Baratza and Central at the entrance to Tamworth Base Hospital and in 2018 constructed the Cafe Baratza at the Belmont Hospital. All food and beverage outlets have been extremely successful and now form part of the fabric and culture within each of the hospitals.
Our Locations
Our flagship food offering Central Catering is based in two of our hospital locations Newcastle and Tamworth Hospital. Offering a range of food from breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between all in line with the Live Life well policy incorporating a variety of western, Asian fusion, Noodle bar, fresh salad bars, hot Mediterranean cuisine and grilled healthy burgers and cooked to order menu offerings. Central also boasts an onsite Pastry Chef who bakes fresh goods daily to supply all the outlets based in the Hospital locations.
Baratza is our signature brand café outlet with four locations now based in John Hunter Hospital, Royal Newcastle Centre, Belmont and Tamworth. Baratza prides itself in offering the best Barista made organic blend coffee with the Chef baked cakes, gourmet toasties, Turkish melts, muffins and other delicacies. These locations pride themselves on offering the most efficient and fresh product and service taking into accounts the urgency and time allocated for breaks in a hospital environment.
GOGO is based near the main entrance to the John Hunter hospital this café offers a slice of all our other major outlets in one location. A selection of hot breakfast
lunch and dinner options prepared by our Central Chefs, with our organic blend coffee, fresh made to order wrap sandwich bar, cold beverages, take home
meals and sushi packs in a quick and easy grab and go style operation.
Sista Wrap is a fresh bowl wrap smoothie bar located in the Royal
Newcastle Centre is a favourite operating during the morning and lunch periods. This new site was established in 2013 in the Royal Newcastle Centre of
the John Hunter hospital.
